This is a translation report on Joey Pigza Swallowed the Key by Jack Gantos. As the source text, Joey Pigza Swallowed the Key is one of the Joey Series novels. The story, told from Joey’s perspective, deals with his inability to control his impulses, due to Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD). These impulses lead Joey to do numerous strange things, both at home and at school, which get him in trouble. He always swallowed the key, and cut Maria’s nose tip. The parents of the classmates were afraid of him for his stupid behavior. Therefore, the principle of the school insisted that Joey must be sent to Special Ed Center to get help. With the help of the special Ed, the medicine, and also with the cooperation of his mum, Joey went back to school successfully and was finally accepted by others.There are five parts in this report. The First Chapter introduces the basic information of the source text, structure of the report and the purposes of the report. In the Second Chapter, the background of the report is stated, including the author’s background information of the source text, the main content of the text and the features of this text. The theoretical framework of the report is stated in Chapter Three, and also the introduction of the Skopos Theory and some basic rules included. In the Chapter Four, the process of the translation is described. And the report deals with the difficulties when encountering some translation problems. The last Chapter concludes the gains and limitations of the translation, and offers some suggestions for future translation.
