The Extensional Exploration Of The Modern Letterpress Print Language

Today the letterpress painting,after removing the old religious and political significance and getting rid of the identity as a dependency,has become an independent form of art,presenting a flourishing status.The printing language is also diversified.Diversification is the premise and feature of all developments and long-time singleness will lead to decline.However it is obvious that the printing is declining,facing new challenges.So how to introduce new vitality into the weakening traditional art forms is the issue to be considered by all print producers.Artists form their personal language style when they are expressing themselves with the help of tool and media,and the methods and materials used by artists have formed special language systems of all kinds of artistic forms.With the development of science and technology,material facility and man's concept,artistic language system has moving toward perfection,whether they can find their own language character in this area which seems to have very little innovation space left is an issue that worth thinking.In the “contemporary” context,how to find a new possibility from the independent art form itself is also a kind of presentation of“contemporary”.Is there anything neglected by us besides the letterpress painting language in orthodox? We may find innovative methods from this.“Contingency” means the uncertain and random tendency occurs during any development.It provides an opportunity in artistic creation,enabling contingency effects.Based on such effects,new image can be generated,breaking the existing visual experience.This is a promotion of the exploration or evolution of the individual art language,which will enable the innovation of printing in the contemporary context.But the production of woodcut is complex,plus a variety of materials are needed,thus the probability of generating an accident in final visual effect after indirect conversion is increased.In terms of methodology,artistic innovation is a complicated problem that is difficult to express,an effective research method may be finding out a tiny breakthrough point,then card it and amplify it.This paper,from the perspective of “contingency”,review elements related with letterpress painting,especially the neglected unorthodox while mainstream factors,trying to discuss about the possible developing directions of letterpress painting in diversified context through document combing and case analysis.In the study and discovery of new language,combine with one's own creation,and integrate one's own research results into one's works,realizing effective combination of theory and practice.
