The Consecutive Interpretation Of "HBO Directors Dialogue With Ang Lee":from The Perspective Of Scopos Theory

With the deepening of China's reform and opening up to the outside world,the cultural exchanges between China and other countries becomes unprecedentedly frequent.Nowadays,China pays much more attention to strengthening its "soft power",in which culture plays an important role.The film industry plays an increasingly important role in this process.In this project,we choose the video "HBO Directors Dialogues with Ang Lee" as the original material.It is a television interview program not only about the main plots and the directing process of then newly hit movie "Life of Pi",but also about the career and real life experience of director Ang Lee.The video material is featured by a wide range of content,loose structure of its language,various terms and background knowledge,and quite a few embarrassing situations,which are big challenges for interpreter.The consecutive interpretation project can help arouse the cross-culture awareness,improve the capabilities of searching for relevant information and coping with unexpected problems.Introducing this kind of TV interview programs to the Chinese audience can contribute to culture exchanges.The whole project is done in the form of E-C consecutive interpretation,on the basis of Skopos Theory proposed by Hans·J· Vermeer.The theory holds that"Skopos" is the core of translation,emphasizing the realization of the function of the target language or text.Under the three basic principles of Skopos Theory,i.e.the Skopos principle,the principle of faithfulness and the principle of coherence,this thesis gives priority to the purpose of interpretation,referring to the principle of faithfulness and the principle of coherence,analyzes the advantages and disadvantages of the interpretation,and then improves the inappropriate parts.This thesis concludes that,the purpose,or Skopos,is the core of interpretation.To meet the purpose,interpreters need to,although it is impossible to prepare everything for an interview program,try our best and strengthen our ability of coping with unexpected problems.It is also very important to distinguish the primary content and serve the core,in order to successfully complete the interpretation.To meet the purpose,interpreters should not only have enough knowledge,make good preparation,but also needs to make some "sacrifice",such as add or delete something when necessary.The project is a valuable experience for the interpreter's study,and I hope it will also provide a reference for other interpreters and researchers for their studies on the consecutive interpretation of TV interview programs.
