The first year students of junior middle school are faced with maladjustments of adolescence and entering a higher school.How to develop in adaptation and to adapt in development are very important to them.Many researches about adaptation of first year students of junior middle school in rural and urban suggest that the school adjustment of the first year students of rural junior middle school is significantly lower than the first year students of urban junior middle school at many dimensions.Hence,the school adjustment of the first year students of rural junior middle school should be considerate seriously.This research investigate some specific problems of the school adjustment of the first year students of rural junior middle school of Suqian,design group psychological counseling scheme basing on theories of developmental psychology and group psychological counseling,and test the validity of intervention which to provide some suggestion to the improvement of school adjustment of the first year students of rural junior middle school.This research used questionnaire survey and quasi-experiment methods.Two classes of Junior One in a rural junior middle school of Suqian were selected which were equal in teachers and academic achievement and set randomly one class for the experimental class,the other class as the control class.In the second week of school,Junior School Students Investigation of adaptation(JSSIA)were implemented to the experimental class and the control class as pre-test.Then,the experimental class received group psychological counseling with routine teaching,and the control class received routine teaching.Finally,Junior School Students Investigation of adaptation(JSSIA)were carried out again to investigate the effects of group psychological counseling on the improvement of school adjustment of the first year students of rural junior middle school.The data were analyzed by SPSS 16.0.The results show that:(1)There is no significant gender difference in school adjustment of the first year students of junior middle school.(2)The total score of school adjustment,learning adjustment,self adjustment,interpersonal adjustment and life adjustment of experimental class students improve significantly after group psychology counseling.The change of school adjustment control class students is not significant.Accordingly,group psychology counseling is useful in promoting school adjustment of the first year students of rural junior middle school.
