Informative texts show features of conveying professional knowledge and objective information, which constitute the toughest challenge in translation.First, this report briefly states the background of the selection of this topic, reviews relevant researches at home and abroad, and mentions the significance and methods.Next, the report introduces the text type of the source texts and describes their characteristics: numerous technical terms, long involved sentences, and logical structures. Then,it argues that faithfulness and expressiveness should be employed as the main criteria for translation of informative texts. Finally, the thesis, from the perspectives of words, sentences and text structures, proves or illustrates through analysis of typical examples such translation methods and techniques as liberal translation, division, combination, conversion, omission, amplification, inversion, and so on.The thesis also proves the absolute necessity that in the process of translating the texts, coordinating and subordinating conjunctions in the source texts be flexibly addressed in the versions, and that translation of pronouns entail their referents. The report highlights the following: while translating informative texts, firstly it must be ensured that professional and accurate words are used;secondly it is essential to reproduce the original information and the original style;to achieve these two points we must constantly refer to parallel texts. This report is intended to enlighten inexperienced translators of informative texts and to help them improve their translation.
