Interpreters often find their language output deteriorating yet find it hard to conduct self-monitoring of their language output in interpreting context.Inadequate allocation of processing capacity to language production might be the primary cause for the deterioration of interpreters' performance. In Gile's Effort Model, there are two phases of interpretation: comprehension phase(L+N+M+C)and the speech production phase(Rem + Read + P + C).Total processing capacity required needs to be less than total processing capacity available in each of the two phases for a successful interpretation to be possible. If language production is allocated with inadequate processing capacity, interpreter's performance will be impacted.A case study on 2016 APEC CEO SUMMIT will provide an in-depth analysis into the causes for the inadequate allocation of the processing capacities to language production and monitoring. It is hoped that this thesis would shed some lights on better monitoring language output and enhance interpreting performance for interpreters.
