Simultaneous Interpretation (SI) has the advantage of synchronization and efficiency, but due to the limited time and effort during SI, interpreters have to use appropriate interpreting strategies in order to successfully complete the SI task.Syntactic linearity strategy is one of the most important strategies of SI. In this paper, on the basis of Daniel Gile's Effort Model Theory, the empirical research is carried out to analyze the usage of syntactic linearity strategy during Chinese-English SI. The theoretical part of the paper describes the the necessity and possibility of using syntactic linearity strategy during Chinese-English SI and concludes 5 corresponding techniques of syntactic linearity strategy:segmentation, conversion, addition, anticipation and simplification. The empirical part of this paper is carried out through quantitative and qualitative analysis to prove the feasibility of syntactic linearity strategy and analyzes the similarities and differences among student interpreters using syntactic linearity. The empirical part of this paper concludes that:In Chinese-English SI, the use of syntactic linearity strategy can improve the overall quality of interpretation. Well-performed interpreters tend to use syntactic linearity techniques in a comprehensive way so as to to effectively guarantee the quality of interpretation. Syntactic linearity strategy is an important skill that students should master and apply actively. This article aims to explore the relationship between syntactic linearity strategy and the overall quality of interpretation and the specific application of syntactic linearity techniques in SI practice, thus providing a reference for students learning interpretation.
