A Variation Study On Yichuan Dialect

Yichuan County is under the jurisdiction of Luoyang City,located in the western hills of Henan Province,north of Luoyang City Proper,south of Song County,east of Dengfeng,west of Yiyang.The northeast is contiguous with Yanshi and the southeast is adjacent to Ruzhou City.Yichuan dialect belongs to Luo Song Section of Central Plains Mandarin,which demonstrates its evident features in such aspects as pronunciation,vocabulary and grammar.This essay combines sociolinguistics and dialectology and uses the software of SPSS20.0 to investigate the variation reasons and characteristics of Yichuan dialect in pronunciation,vocabulary and grammar from the perspective of language variation and analyzes the linguistic internal factors(pronunciation,semantics,and grammar)and social factors(gender,age,class,education and region)that influence the variation of the dialect so as to reveal its evolutionary trends.The results show that Yichuan dialect change in progress towards mandarin;the variation speeds in pronunciation,vocabulary and grammar are different and social factors are diverse;the variation speeds in county,town and village are diverse.This research will enrich the materials in Yichuan dialect,which is very significant to the study of Chinese dialects variation and the formulation of language policy.This essay includes six chapters and the specific contents are as follows:Chapter One is the introduction.The geographical location of Yichuan county and general situation of Yichuan dialect are briefly introduced.The current research status of Luoyang dialect,Yichuan dialect and Chinese dialects variation are summarized and then the content,the significance,the theoretic foundation and the method of this research are introduced.Chapter Two introduces social investigation and handling methods of linguistic data.The geography and the dialect of Yichuan County are briefly introduced.Then,the investigation is illustrated,including establishing each variable and its variant,designing the questionnaire and conducting the fieldwork.Later,the collected data is transcribed and is analyzed by using the software of SPSS20.0.Chapter Three elaborates the phonetic variation in Yichuan dialect.By Character Table of Dialect Investigation and Linguistic Atlas of Chinese Dialects and Phonetic Volumes,consonant variables and vowel variables in Yichuan dialect are selected.Subsequently,the phonetic results are analyzed by using the software of SPSS20.0 in order to summarize how pronunciation variables use the new variants and the old ones,and elaborate the linguistic internal factors and social factors that lead to the phonetic variation.Chapter Four explains the lexical variation in Yichuan dialect.By The Handbook of Vocabulary Investigation in Chinese Dialect and Linguistic Atlas of Chinese Dialects and Vocabulary Volumes,nouns,verbs,adjectives and adverbs in Yichuan dialect are investigated.Afterwards,these results are analyzed by using the software of SPSS20.0 so as to summarize how vocabulary variables use the new variants and the old ones,and expound the linguistic internal factors and social factors that have an influence on the lexical variation.Chapter Five explicates the grammatical variation in Yichuan dialect.By The Handbook of Grammar Investigation and Linguistic Atlas of Chinese Dialects and Grammatical Volumes,some special sentence patterns,such as disposal sentences,repeated interrogative sentences and coordinate complex sentences are investigated.Later,these grammatical results are analyzed by using the software of SPSS20.0 in order to summarize how grammar variables use the new variants and the old ones,and expatiate on the social factors that bring about the grammatical variation.Chapter Six analyzes the causes and features of variation.In this chapter,the factors that give rise to the variation of Yichuan dialect are explored and the overall characteristics of the variation are summarized,and then the development tendency of Yichuan dialect is forecasted.The last part of this paper is conclusion.The full text is concluded and the suggestions of language policy fomulation are thrown out.Meanwhile,deficiencies in this research are pointed out.
