Vocabulary teaching is the foundation and a necessary part of teaching Chinese as a foreign language.Idioms can make our conservation become more concise and vivid,so they are the important components of the vocabulary.Animal idioms are special parts of idioms.Because of the close link between people and animals,animal idioms are frequently used in life.Because of the differences of cultural background and geographical conditions etc,animal idioms of different countries always contain different meanings.Students studying animal idioms can be affected by their own culture,so they may have biased errors.The present situation of teaching animal idioms is not optimistic.Teachers and students don't pay enough attention to animal idioms.Animal idioms rarely appear in teaching activities.And when teachers deal with animal idioms,they often use simple and single teaching means.The foreign students can hardly understand and use animal idioms in their real life.Thus,this thesis studies the situation of animal idioms' teaching and puts forward some teaching strategies,with the expectation that the foreign students can pay enough attention to animal idioms.The thesis begins with the introduction,which introduces the origin,purpose and methods of this study.At the same time,it collects and arranges materials researched by scholars about the animal idioms and the teaching of animal idioms in recent years.Then it makes a brief introduction to animal idioms,including its structural characteristics and meaning features and how to select animal idioms in teaching.After that,it introduces the error analysis theory,comparative analysis theory and cultural linguistic theory in teaching Chinese as a foreign language,and these three theories can also be applied to teaching animal idioms.It describes the situation and importance of idiom teaching.And then it puts forward some teaching strategies under the guidance of these three theories.It also takes two specific animal idioms as examples to carry outthe design of teaching plans.Finally it is the conclusion about the whole thesis.This thesis emphasizes the investigation and analysis of the teaching situation of animal idioms and puts forward some teaching strategies in terms of cultural teaching,morpheme teaching and pragmatics teaching.From the result of the teaching activities,it is easy to find that these teaching methods do provide some help to foreign students.We hope that this thesis can make some contributions to the teaching of Chinese animal idioms.
