Modern Chinese narrative poems play a key role in the development of Chinese literature.Its development can be summarized in three periods including Emergence,Evolution,and Maturation.Modern Chinese narrative poems are rich in content,form and create many vivid characters,thus leaving far-reaching influence on the written art form of poetry since the foundation of the New China.Wang Rong's A History of Modern Chinese Narrative Poems from the academic point of view of literature takes deep dive study and comparison of various schools of Chinese narrative modern poems from different periods.This book is a sole academic monograph on the history of modern Chinese narrative poems from China and abroad.It is regarded as a history book with high reference value for scholars in field of modern Chinese narrative poetry study.This thesis is a translation report of the introduction of A History of Modern Chinese Narrative Poems by Professor Wan Rong.The style of the source text is precise,clear,with full of thesis and bountiful quotations and introductory words.Professor Wang Rong makes an elaborated presentation about the history of modern Chinese narrative poems by means of precise writing style and accurate empirical analysis.His approach accounts for the writer's academic language style and with functional equivalence theory as primary basis.This paper has made an analysis and conclusion on vocabulary,grammar and paragraphs reflecting the writer's academic language style in the source text.It achieved the ability to maintain the original language style of the writer,while also ensuring the translations reflect the information of source text with the most appropriate and natural sounding words.He also encourage readers to fully understand and appreciate the original works as intended for the native readers,which is just as what the functional equivalence theory demands.This translation practice report mainly consists of the following four sections:the first section is introduction,sketching out the translation task,target and meaning.The second section is about the characteristics of academic language style of the source text,listing three features of preciseness,distinction and strong prediction.The third section is about translation practice,introducing functional equivalence theory and exerting functional equivalence theory to analyze examples of words,sentence and phrases structure showing the writing styles of the source text.The fourth section is making conclusion of the translation practice,sharing the experience and summing up shortcomings.This report will enable more translators to decipher the difficulties in the translation practice and draw on the lessons of the writer's experience,thus offering an example for the future translation of literary texts.
