A Report On The Chinese-English Translation Of Campus News

Campus news,one of the sections of university website,shows the recent events in university and it is one of the most important channels for foreign readers to learn about the university.High-quality Chinese-English translation of campus news can not only help readers obtain information and improve the service of campus network,but also bring convenience to the dynamic management and decision-making of universities.The report is divided into five parts.First of all,the author describes the background and purpose of translation task.In the current international environment,universities begin to establish English websites in order to strengthen external exchanges and enhance the image of university.Chapter two analyzes the source text from aspects of text type and linguistic characteristics.The author reveals two attributes of the campus news text,namely,news text and publicity text,and summarizes the linguistic characteristics of the text: widespread Chinese-character vocabularies and four-character idioms.Then chapter three describes the translation process.The first section describes the selection of auxiliary tools and the characteristics of parallel texts.The second section describes three translation principles of the campus news based on the guidance of the functional school theory.The author also introduces the proofreading work.Chapter four elaborates the difficulties in this practice and conducts case studies on the English translation of news headlines,Chinese-character vocabularies and four-character idioms.Finally,the author summaries the translation task,including her feelings and experience after finishing the task,and some unresolved issues.This report is based on the author's practice of news translation in the campus network of Hebei Normal University.It is guided by the theory of functional school.The purpose of this report is to summarize the author's results and problem in the translation practice,and study the principle and tactics of campus news translation.The author hope it can benefit others' practice of translating campus news.
