A Report On E-C Translation Of ST News From The Perspective Of Nida's Functional Equivalance

With the rapid development of science and technology,the international exchanges of science and technology in this information era are drastically increasing day by day.As the most important language in international community,English still plays a vital role in our life.In order to catch up with the world's advanced scientific technology and promote the international exchanges,it has become an urgent task for us to know how to accurately translate scientific and technological English news,reports,research materials and magazines into Chinese.Science and technology is progressing in an unprecedented speed in China.The translation of English scientific and technological news should pay more attention to its accuracy and objectivity,and strive to meet readers'reading habits.Due to the timeliness of ST news articles,under the traditional theoretical framework,ST articles are hard to be well translated.Thus,Nida's functional equivalence theory can be used to guide practical English news translation of science and technology,so as to improve the translation quality and make them more acceptable to readers.Most of the examples in this report are selected from translations on the ST news during the author' internship period in China Daily.All the news is mainly about the latest international scientific and technological information,including the much-discussed bitcoin,artificial intelligence and other valuable and innovative subjects.With focuses on the Nida's functional equivalence,the report attempts to enlighten the study of E-C translation of current ST news.This report is composed of five parts.Chapter One mainly introduces significance and background at home and abroad as well as research objective.The second chapter introduces the basic characteristics of English for science and technology.The third chapter mainly introduces the history and development of functional equivalence theory as well as its feasibility and significance for ST news translation.The fourth chapter,the essential part,elaborates on multiple examples under the guidance of functional equivalence theory from three dimensions,namely lexicon,syntax and discourse.The translation strategies include addition,omission,and conversion and so on.The last chapter summarizes the whole thesis and puts forward some constructive translation suggestions.
