With the frequency and in-depth communication between China and the other countries,films and TV programs turn out to be one of the keys to the cultural communication between Chinese and Western cultures.As one of the mass entertainments,they are poured into the Chinese market.On this account,our biggest problem could be how to cater to Chinese audience's aesthetic expectations,experience various ways of thinking and concepts of life,and discover different personal values and world views.As a vehicle of cultural communication--Translation is inevitably slipping into people's life.However,unlike literary works,subtitle Translation requires colloquial and plain language so as to be understood easily.Therefore,it becomes difficult owing to the time and space limitation.This thesis is on the basis of key notion for pragmatics--Adaptability Perspective from Jef Verschueren.It intends to describe and deal with translation assignment during translating process in order to make an analysis on translators' Chinese version.In accordance with Verschueren,language is a social act.It is necessary to correlate language phenomenon with language usage from more comprehensive angles which involve cognition,society and culture.Verschueren's viewpoint that using language is a continuous making of linguistic choices for the purpose of communication.This includes: contextual correlates of adaptability,structural objects of adaptability,dynamics of adaptability and salience of adaptability during translating process.A case oriented approach is used to analyze the subtitle translation of Kung Fu Panda III by combining descriptive and analytical method.When Kung Fu Panda III makes its appearance on screen,it gains great reputation from people inland.Besides its excellent and dedicate producing,beautiful and graceful pictures,it obviously surpasses Kong Fu Panda I and Kong Fu Panda II by its subtitle translation.With the guidance of Adaptation Theory,this thesis aims to investigate subtitle translation of Kung Fu Panda III from four angles.First,considering the differences among physical world,social norms and social etiquette,together with mental factors,the author attempts to analyze the translators' choices on proper words during translating process in order to adapt to the view of target audience,which will be represented from three aspects of contextual correlates of adaptability: physical,social and mental dimensions.Second,the author searches for the techniques the translators use in order to obtain structural objects of adaptability at a micro-level,namely,phonological level,lexical level,syntactic level and language style.Third,to analyze under what circumstance,the translators make the rightful choice with appropriate words to express proper meanings under the guidance of dynamics of adaptability based on time adaptation and cultural context adaptation.Finally,the author tends to analyze the influence of different consciousness on context of target language and target language itself during the session of language conversion and culture transmission.Put simply,the translating process is completed with the translators' unconscious or highly conscious adaptation.
