In the duration of 100 years from the mid-19th century to the founding of the people's Republic of China,great changes have been taken place in Chinese society.And the Taohuawu New Year Paintings faded away amid changes.A great batch of Suzhou New Year Paintings artists forced by the war and other reasons went to Shanghai a living,which promoted the prosperity of Shanghai New Year Paintings.Those artists were invited to combine New Year Paintings with commercial propaganda and created an artistic form called Calendar Picture with characteristic of the times.By introducing the Shanghai regional Calendar Picture as the research object,this thesis starts from the spread of traditional folk art,development of commerce,change of public aesthetic interest and western art and the inherent relationship between the Taohuawu New Year Paintings and the Calendar Picture.Then,this paper discusses the influence of folk artists and external culture,art and technique on the above relationship in the aspects of theme,form,techniques and etc.in the process of reception and reconstitution of Calendar Picture to Taohuawu New Year Paintings.The Calendar Picture finally formed an artistic form with Jiangnan New Year Paintings artistic features and modernity and it became a characteristic art symbol in the Republic of China era.This successful case of artistic innovation can help us to know the effect of development of era on the inheritance and development of folk art and better explore the modern value of traditional art.What is more,it helps us to realize the importance of human to the intangible cultural art and provide reference for the development of modern art.
