With the rapid development of information technology, the advanced programming system like iOS of Apple, one of the frontier products, has been attracting the attention of a lot of developers worldwide. However, mostly written in English, these instruction books about computer programming are beyond the comprenhension of some Chinese readers in the IT world. Therefore, translating such texts into Chinese will help to promote the research, communication and study in this field.Based on the English-Chinese translation of a 10000-word excerpt from The iOS Apprentice:Getting Started(Fourth Edition),this report aims to discuss the problems and difficulties encountered during the translation process and the solutions that have been adopted in order to produce an adequate and readable target text. This report is divided into five sections. After introducing the background of the translation project,it leaves some space for Eugene A.Nida's functional equivalence theory which has played a guiding role in the translation practice. Then, the features of source text are analyzed respectively on lexical, syntactic and stylistic level, which would pave the way for the following discussions about the translation techniques.Following Nida's functional equivalence theory, the completed translation has managed to provide the readers with the closest target text in the most natural way on the previously mentioned three levels,by using methods like amplification, conversion and restructuring to evoke the same reaction from target readers as that of original readers. Finally, this report concludes with a brief summary of the translation project, for the hope of providing suggestions to E-C translation in the IT field.
