Under the influence of the economic growth,Chinese tourism booms and brings forward higher standards for C-E tourism translation.As an international event,the International Wuhan Garden Expo 2016(Wuhan Garden Expo for short)offers good opportunities to promote China's image and spread Chinese culture.And its exhibition introduction falls into the category of tourism text.High-quality translation of its exhibition introductions is essential to convey information,promote Chinese culture and attract foreign tourists for the translation reflects the image of Yangtze River Basin,or even the whole China.Moreover,the success of its exhibition introduction translation is evaluated by reader's response and the extent to which they accept the translation.Only when the translation is well accepted in a great extent can it arouse their interest for paying a visit by themselves.However,there are some problems in C-E translation of exhibition and garden introductions in the aspects of linguistic level and cultural level caused by the negligence of English readers' acceptability and response.The improvement of the quality of tourism translation calls for the guidance of a reader-oriented theory to avoid such problems during the process of translation.Skopos theory is a literary theory,which focuses on reader's reception and stresses the existence of readers.Skopos rule,fidelity rule and coherence rule are its major concepts.Readers' reading experience is influenced by linguistic difference,various cultures and personal thinking patterns.The success of a translation work is determined by reader's response.Skopos theory can be applied in both literary works and application-oriented texts.This thesis employs quantitative analysis and carries out a questionnaire design to collect foreigners' response and evaluation of the translation in Wuhan Garden Expo.The thesis first introduces the current situation of domestic tourism translation,and an introduction of Wuhan Garden Expo is also made.A questionnaire survey is adopted to explore the comprehensibility and acceptability of these English exhibition introductions.Then,On the basis of the questionnaire design and the analysis of the survey results,collected data are analyzed at lexical,syntactic and semantic levels.The results show that misspelling,grammatical mistakes and Chinglish style of writing are the main concerns.Then,some translation strategies at both lexical and syntactic level were put forward and summarized.At last,the thesis focus on the problems of tourism translation in China and further put forward two methods to improve the current situation.It is suggested that the cultivation of qualified translator is of great importance in that many linguistic errors are caused by the unqualified language competency of translators.In addition,it is pointed out that relevant government organs should shoulder the responsibility of supervising the process of translation industry.Several strategies of tourism translation were put forward in the light of Skopos theory.It is hoped that this thesis could attract the attention of related government organs and further provide referential materials for translators in tourism translation market.
