This translation report, under the guidance of the functional equivalence theory of Eugene Nida, discusses the process and the strategy of biochemistry books with Working with Rhizobia from Australian Rhizobia Research Center as translation material. This book discusses the natural growth, inoculation, collection and manpower cultivation of rhizobia, explained its function of N?-fix,mutualistic symbiosis and nutrition providing, and assumed its function for future breeds development. Therefore, the language in this book is scientific, precise and accurate.Because of the professional vocabularies, the colorful images and tables as well as the notes, this translation project was difficult to be finished. However, all the factors mentioned above also bring the project more interests and make it a comprehensive translation task. The theory of functional equivalence of Eugene Nida has a great instructional function for this process. There are a lot of difference between English and Chinese. In the process of translation, sometimes it was impossible to achieve the equivalence both formally and functionally,so it is necessary to take a balance between formal equivalence and functional equivalence.Only by doing so can we bring the target language readers the same feeling that the book gave the original readers. This report, with the guidance of the functional equivalence theory, uses different skills and strategies to solve the different problems such as terminologies, long and complex sentences as well as passive voice.By doing this, this report would rich the translation practice of the functional equivalence theory of Nida, give the guidance to the researchers of this field and give guidance and instruction to the translation of the same materials in the future.
