Translation Strategies For Medical Device Technical Texts Under The Perspective Of Textual Feature

Recently,China has seen a growing import of medical devices and equipment as well as an increasing development of its own medical device industry,which led to an urgent need for translation of English medical device technical texts.On the one hand,the translation quality of medical device instructions or manuals directly affects the safety and efficiency of using and managing import devices in China.On the other hand,Chinese medical technology companies have been striving to get in line with international standards regarding technical guidance or management manual.Based on a case study of the translation of two medical device technical texts from English to Chinese,this thesis intends to explore features of medical device technical texts and the translation difficulties arising there from,and tries to come up with effective solutions.The author will start from the case description,and then summarizes text features and the general translation principles.Following a brief discussion about the difficulties in translation including problems with logic feature of the text,nominalization and terms,the author tries to propose three strategies as feasible ways for addressing them,namely explicitation,turning stative into dynamic style,using search engine and taking parallel text as reference.It is hoped that this paper could play a positive role in guiding and optimizing the translation of medical device technical texts.
