A Report On E-C Translation Of Medical Device Documents

The healthcare industry has been enjoying a great popularity in the world as the economy grows rapidly,with a large amount of investment in drugs and also in medical devices.While developing her surgical techniques,China has imported many imported high-end equipment.Therefore,it is critical to accurately translate these medical device documents for medical staff and researchers to operate and create devices.Based on the translator’s experience of English-to-Chinese translation of medical devices,this thesis selected and studied Clinical Evaluation Report under the text typology theory of Peter Newmark.First,the translator concluded the medical device document into an informative text by analyzing features of the document under the guide of text typology.Next,the translator recorded the difficulties while translating and classified them into three groups: words,sentences and logic.Finally,the translator adopted the communicative translation(CT)and semantic translation(ST)of Newmark to address those difficulties so that the translation can be made accurate as Newmark proposes.That this thesis applied Newmark’s text typology theory to the translation of the medical device materials does not solve the difficulties encountered by the translator but also helps the translator herself and others take on the oncoming translations.
