An Analysis On Contextual Adaptation In Business English Interpretation From The Perspective Of The Theory Of Adaptation

Both Chinese economy and national status are embracing the rapid development.There are much more chances to communicate with different nations.As the bridge for international communication,interpretation plays a significant role.To some extent,interpretation can be regarded as a kind of special communicative activity,and its successful production is closely related to the research on context.Business English interpretation as the special interpretation possesses its own characteristics,dependent on particular occasions,which covers a wide range from national negotiation,opening ceremony speech to travel and making friends.During the process of interpretation activity,the interpreter should make the right choices flexibly on the basis of concrete situations with the aim to adapt to the communicative purposes.The thesis probes into the contextual adaptation of business English interpretation from the perspective of Jef.Verschueren's Theory of Adaptation.The Theory of Adaptation holds that there are two kinds of contextual adaptations in the process of interpretation:adaptation to the linguistic context,adaptation to the non-linguistic context,and the adaptation to the non-linguistic context can be divided into three factors which are adaptation to social world,mental world and physical world.The thesis makes a research on the contextual adaptation of business English interpretation based on the Theory of Adaptation combining with the characteristics of business English.With the emphasis on the non-linguistic adaptation,it mainly probes into the adaptation to social world,mental world and physical world by the reference of analysis on the business English interpretation materials which have been transcribed.Ultimately,the author tries to make several proposals on efficient contextual adaptation in order to appeal the interpreters' attention on contextual adaptation and ensure the success of business English interpretation and make the business activities go smoothly.
