A Study Of EST Interpretation From The Perspective Of Adaptation Theory

With the development of economic globalization and the rapid rise of China,more and more technology companies begin to promote their products in China and Chinese people pay more attention to foreign products than ever before,which has created favorable conditions for the development of EST interpretation in China.Under such circumstances,the research on EST interpretation not only expands the relevant academic research,but also reflects the actual needs.The corpus analyzed in the thesis is the English-Chinese interpretation from the WWDC 2017.Based on the pragmatic Adaptation Theory,the author analyzes and compares the linguistic choices and adaptation that the interpreters of two versions made in the process of interpreting,which cover contextual adaptation,structural adaptation,dynamic adaptation and degrees of salience of the adaptation processes.Adaptation Theory,as an adaptable and expository theory,demonstrates the dynamic nature of linguistic choices and contextual adaptation shown in the process of using languages.The thesis embodies the explanatory power and guiding ability of the Adaptation Theory in sci-tech interpreting through the detailed classification of the application of each research perspective and the analysis of the application of the four angles of investigation of Adaptation Theory in the interpretation of the WWDC 2017.By analyzing the application of Adaptation Theory in the interpretation of the WWDC 2017,the author summarizes some suggestions,hoping to provide something useful for the interpreters' practice in EST interpretation.
