This C-E simulated translation project selects four sections from Chapter 1 of Zong Qinghou 's Universal Gravitation Principle written by Chi Yuzhou as translation material. On the basis of Skopos Theory and the difficulties in the process of translation, the author writes this report after thorough analysis.Through translation practice, the author finds a variety of colloquial words existing in this biography. Some colloquial words are characterized with cultural images, some present special functional characters, and some exist in delexicalization, leading to three difficulties for translation:(1)cultural image of colloquial words;(2)stylistic function of colloquial words;(3)delexicalization of colloquial words. This report adopts Skopos Theory as theoretical basis to deal with the three difficulties mentioned above. The Skopos Theory attaches importance to target readers, taking the purpose of translation in the first place and being loyal to the original at the same time.Hence, the author holds that Skopos Theory is helpful to address the above three difficulties. Therefore, given the above three difficulties, the following translation methods are adopted:(1)transliteration + annotation to solve the first difficulty;(2)correspondence translation to solve the second difficulty;(3)free translation to solve the third difficulty.Practice proves that the above methods can effectively solve translation difficulties in colloquial words in biography text and can provide useful guidance for the reporter and other translators.
