The Relationship Between Character Strengths And Career Adaptability Among High School Students:the Roles Of Ego-identity And Career Indecision

Now people's life and work are constantly changing,so that everyone's development has more uncertainty.High school students are in the early stages of exploring their careers,and their careers are constantly changing,with uncertainties,individual and environmental factors that may affect their future careers.Positive psychology focuses on human's strengths,potential and positive personality traits,and helps individuals to actively respond to various puzzles and challenges in the course of career development.Moreover,whether high school students can have a comprehensive and correct understanding of themselves has an important influence on the development of character strengths.Therefore,from the perspective of positive psychology,this study discusses the relationship between character strengths and career adaptability analysis of self-identity in the intermediary effect between the two,as well as career indecision to the mediation process adjustment.In this study,207 high school students in Shijiazhuang were selected to revise their Career Adaptability Scale.Research by using cluster sampling in Shijiazhuang two high schools to select 590 high school students in the investigation,using SPSS24.0,SPSS macro program PROCESS and AMOS21.0 to analyze the collected data,discusses the high school students character strengths,career adaptability,ego-identity and career indecision.The collected data are statistically processed,and the results are as follows:(1)The revised high school career adaptability scale includes four dimensions,curious concern,career control,career curiosity,career confidence,and scale has good reliability and validity which is an efficient tool in measuring high school career adaptability.(2)The scores of high school students' character strengths are kindness,optimism,honesty,self-regulation,leadership,flexible innovation,love of learning,interest and curiosity.In the differences of demographic variables,the girl in the honesty and integrity,leadership,self adjusting dimension score is significantly higher than boys,and in the flexible innovation dimensions,boys scored significantly higherthan girls;In the dimension of interest and curiosity and honesty and integrity,non-only children scored significantly higher than the only child.In terms of grade and source,the self-regulation score of senior and senior three was significantly higher than that of senior high school students,and rural high school students scored significantly higher than urban high school students.(3)The high school students' overall level of adaptability is not high,and they score higher in their career concern,career control and career curiosity.In terms of demographic variables,the curiosity score of freshman year was significantly higher than that of grade 2.Urban high school students' career concern,career confidence and career adaptability scored significantly higher than non-urban high school students.(4)The high school students' character advantage has a positive predictive effect on career adaptability,among which positive optimism,leadership and flexible innovation have a significant positive predictive effect on career adaptability.(5)The ego-identity played partial mediating effect between character strengths and career adaptability,that is character strengths can directly affect the career adaptability,can also affect career adaptability through ego-identity.(6)the career indecision moderated this mediation effect between “the self investment now” and career adaptability.With career indecision increasing,the effect of “the self investment now” on career adaptability reduced.And the different groups of career indecision moderate the mediation effect of “the crisis of past” and “the commitment for the future” on career adaptability.Specifically,With career indecision increasing,the effect of “the crisis of past” or “the commitment for the future” on career adaptability reduced.
