The rural prose since the 1990s,based on individual rural experiences and perceptions, aims at describing the changing rural world. They contain the reminiscences of the peaceful past, the anxieties of the dramatic changes to the rural society, and also the philosophical reflections and imaginations. The writers' attempt to select, delete, recall and reorganize their personal experiences and to express sentiments and make meanings in a literary way is de facto discourse practice. And the differences of writing subjects'targets, focuses and emotions give rise to discourse types.According to the emotions and values of the discourses, the discourse types of the rural prose since 1990s include nostalgia discourse, sorrow discourse and philosophic thought discourse.Nostalgia discourse refers to the attempt to recall rural experiences, present individual rural memories and express homesickness. This type of discourse is of the aesthetic characteristics including sadness and melancholy.Sorrow discourse is about thoroughly examining and describing the rural status quo with problem consciousness, presenting the crisis that the rural society is facing, and drawing readers' attentions and reflections towards the rural world as a social space. It directly mirrors the reality and shows the complexity of the rural society in changing social circumstances. Thus the sorrow discourse can be characterized as being realistic and argumentative.Philosophic thought discourse means that, the writer illuminates the rural objects and experiences by some certain ideas, theories and thoughts, gives the rural world value connotations, fully illustrates the significance of the rural world to the people, and thus shows its subjectivity.Debris, inward and philosophical are the characteristics of this type of discourse.
