Gentlewomen originally referred to the educated nobility of noble birth,and later evolved into women’ personal character,behavior,quality and morality,which no longer specifically limits class status.In the eyes of the public and writers at the end of the 18th century,ladies were the female who have beautiful appearances,born noble,carefree,pampered,and attached to the male.By the time of the Victorian period,the economic two-part area was clearer,and the men touted the ladies as "family angels".In essence,ladies were bound in the family,which let them always be unable to get rid of the social atmosphere which was dominated by male.In such a social environment and special life circumstances,the Bronte Sisters formed a sense of rebellion against the traditional ladies’image,and searched for new ladies quality,as well as showed the new ladies quality they searched for in the works.Whether Jane Eyre,Helen or Catherine,they were all the externalization of the personal thoughts and feelings of the Bronte Sisters.They all had the personality characteristics of the Bronte Sisters.At the same time,there were similarities and essential differences in the image between them and Vitoria traditional ladies.As the same as the traditional ladies,they were all in the male-centered social environment,with the difficult journey.However,they were essentially beyond the traditional ladies.They dared to resist the secular society of inequality,and they were eager to realize themselves.Jane Eyre broke out the passionate rebellious force;Helen divorced from the role of the "family angel",and realized the awakening of self-consciousness to complete the redemption of life;Catherine crazily pursued the unity of body and soul;Through the characters in the works,the Bronte Sisters boldly challenged the social mundane prejudice and strongly criticized the traditional patriarchal concept.It was no doubt that as well as the characters in the works,the Bronte Sisters were struggling to get rid of the position of traditional ladies.In their thoughts and action,there was the significance of cross-time!...
