It is unquestionable that science and technology play an important role in the progress of human's civilization. As an indispensible part in nowadays social life, science and technology contribute greatly to the economic and cultural construction. With the deepening of economic integration and the advancement of reform and the opening up,communications between China and other countries become increasingly close.Exchanges and cooperation in the field of science and technology is also strengthened. As a result, the translation of English for science and technology(EST)shows its importance in the international arena. Therefore, exploring how to achieve high-quality EST translation is not only of academic significance but also of high social value.Owing to the rapid advancement of the information and communication technology(ITC),the Internet has covered every aspect of social life. However, for the lack of sound management systems and legislations, the issue of cybersecurity has become a primary threat for personal and national safety. The source text ITU National Cybersecurity Strategy Guide, published by ITU in 2012,may provide a strategic guidance for cybersecurity management.Taking the Guide as the text for research, this report aims at exploring some useful methods in EST translation under the guidance of Newmark's semantic and communicative translation theories. The report first makes a brief introduction on this translation project and relevant theoretical basis. Then it analyzes the features of the source text and puts forwards some requirements for the translated text from the levels of word, sentence and discourse. In the following part, typical cases are discussed and some useful translation methods are summarized with the guidance of semantic and communicative translation theories. The last part draws a conclusion for this project.
