| The overall concern of the thesis is to analyze the construction of Spring Festival Gala from the perspective of discourse and social change through analyzing the MC remarks.It aims to investigate the discursive changes of Spring Festival Gala in relation to social change in the development of the society.The thesis takes the chronological order of historical evolution as a clue and the opening and concluding MC remarks from 1983 to 2016 as data.Adopting Ruth Wodak’s discourse historical approach,transitivity and intertexuality,the study explores the changes of MC remarks,with a particular focus on the realization of the strategies in discourse-historical approach and recontextualization in reviewing the text.Through the specific text analysis and discussion,it is found that MC remarks of Spring Festival Gala is a dynamic process along with the development of social life.First of all,the discursive function changes from festival discourse to the combination of both festival and construction discourses which aims to call on the public to participate in the social construction practice.After analyzing the construction of Spring Festival Gala with discursive strategies and social backgrounds,the metadiscourse behind the Gala discourse is disclosed.Construction discourse in different stages helps shape Spring Festival Gala discourse and reflects the stability and connection in one certain stage.Meanwhile,Spring Festival Gala discourse is influenced by different social contexts thus has different features in each stage.It inherits and varies among the “continuity” and “change” over the past thirty years.With the process of social development and the integration of new construction discourse,the contents and meanings of Spring Festival Gala will be informative and plentiful. |
