The author selects Peer Interaction in New Content and Language Integrated Settings,a volume of Educational Linguistics series, published by Springer-Verlag as the source text in the report. The English-Chinese translation of this academic work has practical and theoretical significance, for this academic work is used to share research findings for further development. The application of Nida's functional equivalence theory to academic translation is an appropriate choice in that the theory requires that the translated text should convey the meaning of source text, firstly in terms of meaning, and secondly in terms of style. In the course of translation, the translated text should not only be the closest natural equivalent of the source text in meaning and style, but also attaches great importance to reader's responses. Thus,it offers some freedom and flexibility for translator when translating academic works featured by strict logic and apparent objectivity. This report, under the instruction of functional equivalence, endeavors to summarize some translation strategies and methods in terms of lexical, syntactic and textual levels. As for lexical equivalence, the author uses free translation or literal translation through contextual analysis and conversion of part of speeches to improve readability when necessary. In order to realize the equivalence on syntactic level, long and complex sentences would be divided into several short ones and then restructure them in accordance with the way of logical expressions in Chinese academic works.Using zero translation and omission can reach functional equivalence on the textual level.Through this translation project, the author has learned many things.Firstly, the preparation before translating is a necessity, for the background information, such as professional knowledge and linguistic styles concerning the source text should be fully understood. While translating, the translation theory should be applied adeptly into practice according to the concrete context and co-text.After the translation had been done, the translator should modify it as time permits in order to ensure the adequacy of the translated text.
