Modal adverb in modern Chinese is an adverb expressing the mood and emotion of speakers and not only is it a difficult point for foreign students to learn,but also a key and difficult point in teaching Chinese as a foreign language.Meanwhile,there are few researches on the teaching of modal adverbs in the initial stage of TCSL.This paper starts from the 18 modal adverbs,from Developing Chinese Elementary Comprehensive Course Ⅰ,which is widely used among foreign students,by collecting,sorting and analyzing the acquisition of these modal adverbs,analyses the teaching of modal adverbs in different items.And,according to similarities and differences of these adverbs,this paper designs teaching,so as to provide some reference to other teachers and researchers.The research mainly adopts investigation method,literature reading method,contrast analysis method and classroom observation method.Teaching methods of the modal adverbs from Developing Chinese Elementary Comprehensive Course Ⅰ are chosen to be as study object,combined with qualitative and quantitative analysis of statistics of students’ acquisition,so that detailed study can be processed in teaching method and teaching design.In the preface of this thesis,studies of ontology researches and teaching researches on modal adverbs by previous scholars are reviewed and summarized.On this basis,acquisition test of Chinese modal adverbs is designed and sent to foreign students,which includes:understanding of words and sentences,selection of words,and location of words.In Chapter Two,the statistics of the test is sorted and analyzed,by which teaching method are found out.Therefore,in the following chapter,discussions are processed on four aspects:Situational teaching method,communicative teaching method,discovery teaching method,and lead-in activities of teaching.Then,the research is following with analysis and explanations on the18 modal adverbs in Developing Chinese Elementary Comprehensive CourseⅠ,teaching design on pure-modal-adverbs as well as teaching design on complex-modal-adverbs.The staples among the chapters and the 8 pure-modal-adverbs are:“太、当然、一定、多、只好、差不多、大概、最好”,and the complex-modal-adverbs are:“也、都、还、就、才、刚、原来、真”.All the non-modality function usages need to be taught as the text book requires,which is hard for students to grasp.Consequently,this paper classifies those words and does the research by comparison.In addition,the peculiar“都、就、才、刚”have got the phenomenon of category ambiguity,polysemy and homomorphism,which increases the difficulties in acquisition of the above modal adverbs.Hence,this paper includes a branch study on the comparison of each adverbs and in the last part,this paper discusses“就是、真是、还是”.Based on the acquisition survey,in order to provide service on modal adverbs teaching in Developing Chinese Elementary Comprehensive Course Ⅰ,this paper focuses on researches on teaching methods and teaching designs of modal adverbs,meanwhile,provides an option to teaching study on modal adverbs with phenomenon of polysemy and homomorphism.Chapter Five,Conclusion and Prospect,summarizes the whole text and hopes to give valuable reference to colleagues in teaching.
