In the course of teaching Chinese as a second language,the teaching of adverb has always been the key and difficult point.As a small class of adverbs,modal adverbs still have differences in meaning,scope,function,and so on.This not only increases the acquisition difficulty of the second language learners,but also increases the difficulty of the modal adverbs in the teaching practice.Through initial investigations,it is revealed that many of the second language learners are unable to use modal adverbs skillfully,and they always avoid using the modal adverbs that have been learned.In the practice of teaching second language,the teaching material is the most improtant tool for the teachers and learners.Selection of Chinese textbooks' texts,new words,language points and other contents plays an important role in teaching.The choice and arrangement of modal adverbs affect the teaching effect of modal adverbs directly.Therefore,analysis of textbooks can help to improve the acquisition of modal adverbs for foreign students,and improve the teaching quality of modal adverbs,so as to provide effective references for teaching practice.In this paper,we used the Chinese textbooks“Developing Chinese”which published by Beijing Language and Culture University Press as the research object,referred on the tracing adverb classification in Zhang Yisheng,Li Quan,Cui Cheng'en,Wang Zhenghong,Chen Yi and others,integrated 22 modal adverbs which in Grade A and B of “Chinese Proficiency Vocabulary and Grade Outline of Chinese character”,compared with modal adverbs in“Developing Chinese”,used the “Beijing Language and Culture University BCC modern Chinese corpus”as the source of the corpus.The meaning and usage of modal adverbs are studied by word,then contrasted the writing situation in“Developing Chinese,pointed out the differences between the semantics and usage of modal adverbs in “Developing Chinese” and in corpus.
