A Translation Report On Three Translation Tasks Of Panzhihua's Tourist City Of Enjoying Sunshine Program

As an increasing number of foreign tourists are flooding into China,translation of tourist materials which is multi-cultural and creativity-oriented indeed plays an increasingly significant role.So far,studies on translation of tourist materials are far from abundance to support relevant translation practice for further development.With the prosperity of tourism industry,theoretical basis is yet far from satisfying the expanding amount of translation practice from time to time,constraining its progress in national economy.These days,most of the existing theoretical studies on translation of tourist materials are based on the system of equivalence put forward by Eugene Nida,discussing the balance between faithfulness and adaptation.The system of equivalence put forward by Eugene Nida sets free the translation of tourist materials from faithfulness,however,some translated materials beyond equivalence cannot be rationally explained,as translation of tourist texts is connecting cultures and folk customs,calling for the achievement of skopos in the end which may not be satisfied by equivalence alone since cultural contents are contained.In this report,further studies are conducted on the translation of tourist materials finished by the author in the Tourist City of Enjoying Sunshine Program in Panzhihua based on Skopostheorie.Different from traditional translation theories,Skopostheorie manages to get rid of the shadow of inter-language transfer;instead,it takes translation as a cross-cultural behavior with purpose.In this way,Skopostheorie enriches translation theories and widens the horizon of translation theories for tourism.Thanks to Skopostheorie,translation of tourist materials manages to go beyond the original form so that translators can give full play to their initiative.This report consists of four chapters.Chapter one is an introduction to the researching background and significance of this report,as well as the features and styles of the source text.Chapter two presents the preparation before translation,exploring the contents and existing academic studies of Skopostheorie at home and abroad,and based on that,four major translating methods applied in the three translating tasks finished bythe author are put forward,namely,i.e.literal translation,free translation,transliteration and complementary translation.In Chapter three,case study is done in which the author's translating practice in the Program The Tourist City of Enjoying Sunshine from Panzhihua is studied to support the four translating methods put forward in the previous chapter.Chapter four is the conclusion,analyzing the guiding role of Skopostheories for tourist translation,summarizing the experience and lessons in the case study as well as the problems remain unsolved in the translation,together with proposals for further study in this field.
