A Report On The E-C Consecutive Interpreting Of Xe-Pian Xe-Namnoy 115/230KV Transmission Line Project

With the initiative of China's Belt and Road,many Chinese enterprises have stepped up the pace of going out,power enterprise is no exception.And a leap-forward development has been realized in global power industry in recent years.Here the author aims to introduce the Xe-Pian Xe-Namnoy(XPXN)Hydroelectric Power Project which is invested by South Korean Engineering and Construction(SKEC)and Korea Western Power.And it is located in the southern region of Lao People's Democratic Republic.Aiming at solving power shortage of Thailand and Laos,the whole construction consists of two parts which is power station and transmission line(TL).CPECC,in which the author served,is responsible for 115/230 KV TL.As the safety awareness of people in Laos is somewhat poor,both CPECC and SKEC attach great importance to Health,Safety and Environment(HSE)induction training.The author had a three-month internship in this project,and she generally undertook the responsibility of consecutive interpreting of the training and other kinds of special training related to safety,from which the author realized the importance of interpreting in the training.Therefore,the author chose HSE induction of XPXN 115/230 KV TL as interpreting material.With strong professionalism,there is a higher requirement for the interpreter to interpret the HSE induction.According to the features of the training content,the Skopos theory of Vermeer becomes her theoretical guidance.And sound results are achieved by applying the theory to practice.During the interpreting,the interpreter followed the rules of skopos,coherence and fidelity and adopted several interpreting strategies,such as amplification,conversion,restructuring,division,omission and synthesization,thus the interpreting task was completed successfully.The author hopes to explore the effective adoption of Skopos theory in the interpreting of HSE induction of power industry,to review and make suggestions about HSE induction interpreting practice as well as to provide new ideas to the safety training of power industry through this report.
