This is a translation report, which is built on Chapter One,“How Leaders Matter” from the monograph,Why Leaders Fight, coauthored by three American scholars,Michael Horowitz,Allan Stam and Cali Ellis. The coauthors have provided a brand-new perspective about International Politics from the leaders' backgrounds of growth and the relationships between those backgrounds and international affairs. From the angles of politics and psychology, the monograph also has elaborated and analyzed numerous related cases. At the same time, the translation report will be of help for related scholars and readers to have a better understanding of new research results in international politics so as to broaden horizons and draw on useful experience. The translation report is divided into four chapters, and Chapter One briefs the background and significance of the whole translation.Chapter Two is about the introduction of the original text, including author introduction and the stylistic analysis of the original text.Based on the Integrated Approach Theory,Chapter Three has analyzed and resolved the translation difficulties by means of specific translation methods and techniques.Chapter Four is the conclusion of whole translation report, illustrating gains and existing problems.A variety of disciplines such as politics, psychology and economics involved in the original text makes its language formal, complex and academic. Therefore, the author of the report employs the Integrated Approach Theory and corresponding translation methods and techniques such as literal translation, liberal translation, division, annotation and conversion to cope with translation difficulties.
