At present,the gap between rich and poor all over the world is widening and there are many books illustrating this topic.But Chinese translation works of this topic are few and limited.This report is based on the translation of the first two parts of This Fight is Our Fight: The Battle to Save Working People.This book is nonfiction and mainly illustrates the disappearing middle class in American and the phenomenon of widening gap between rich and poor.There are two features in the source text.Firstly,there is much information about politics,society and historical background,which is of typical cultural characteristics.Secondly,as for language,the sentences are mostly long and complicated with complex structures.Both of those are difficulties and challenges for the translator to deal with in translation.During translation process,the translator should not only be faithful to the source text but also make translation conform to readers' thinking and language expression ways to achieve balance between the original language and the translation language.In order to translate accurately and smoothly and help readers understand the source text more precisely,the translator depends on strategies of contextual correlates of adaptability,structural objects of adaptability and dynamics of adaptability in Adaptation Theory and adopts many translation skills,such as words conversion,addition and subtraction.This report summarizes and analyzes the translator's experience in translation process from the perspective of Adaptation Theory and is intended to provide examples for nonfiction translation.
