As a well-known poet,Zha Liangzheng also worked as a great translator.At first he served as “a famous poet in Jiuye School ” with his pseudonym as Mu Dan whose representative works were Expedition,Mu Dan's Poems and Flag.He integrated modernist in west European with the tradition of Chinese poems,which was possessed with unique characteristics of Mu Dan's poems.After that,due to Mu Dan's identity as a poet and changes of social environment,he became a prolific poetry translator.The main works he translated were Russian Pushkin's Selected lyric poems by Pushkin,Selected lyric poems by Shelley and Byron's Don Juan and Selected lyric poems by Byron in Britain.He translated a large amount of works that exerted far-reaching impact.However,the translator Zha Liangzheng received less attention than that of the poet Mu Dan.And it is worthwhile to discuss and research deeply why the poet Mu Dan transformed from his original identity to a translator.As a result,it is necessary to conduct a systematic analysis and study of Zha Liangzheng as a poetry translator.The main research methodology of this thesis is interdisciplinary study,which combines translation studies and Social Psychology theories.The next one is the traditional documents' study by which the materials can be acquired from reading and consulting related books.As for the data collection of the research,it comes from CNKI and many foreign websites.And the data statistics figures and tables are also used in this thesis to make a clearly previous research.The innovation of this thesis relies on the theory and the reasons why Zha Liangzheng changed his dominant identity from the perspective of Social Identity Theory.The thesis at first overviews the research background,purpose,significance,methodology,data collection and the framework.Next it covers an introduction of previous studies on Zha Liangzheng as a poet as well as a translator.The theoretical framework serves as the second chapter.It includes the introduction of the Social Identity Theory and the identification of the identity changes.The third part is the introduction of Zha Liangzheng including his early life and his study life in America.The fourth part serves as the main part,which mainly discusses Zha's poetry translation,the background,reasons,the main works and their authors.At last the author concludes that the early period of the founding the People's Republic of China and the Cultural Revolution led to the social acceptation to the translator group.Besides,the identity as a poet commonly contributed to Zha being a translator and selecting Russian,British poems as his main translated works.
