Chinese directional complement has been one of the most difficulties and weaknesses for foreign students to learn Chinese.Because there is no concept of directional complement in Myanmar language,it is difficult for Myanmar students to master Chinese directional complement especially the extended usage.For this reason,in this paper,different types of questions are designed to examine the understanding and mastery of the extended meanings of the compound directional complement by Myanmar students.This article is divided into five chapters: the first chapter is introduction,including the reason and significance of the topic selection,the brief introduction of the research status,the research thinking of this paper and the research methods and so on.In the second chapter,it makes a certain analysis and discussion on the difficulties which come out from the acquisition of the extended usage of compound directional complement for foreign students especially Myanmar students,and it also makes a certain prediction on the possible difficulties in accordant with my experience of learning compound directional complement and the point of view of Chinese teaching in Myanmar.On the basis of chapter two,the third chapter designs a test questionnaire to examine the practical errors and challenges in the use of compound directional complement of Chinese major students who are studying Chinese in Mandalay University of Foreign Languages in Myanmar.The survey found that Myanmar students have better acquisition of “shanglai” express “from lower rank to higher rank” and “xialai” express “from the past to the present” “ to enter the static” “ to complete”,“shangqu” express “contact,add” are more mistaken and difficult to learn.In the position of the object,the word order which is similar to Myanmar language is easy to acquire for Myanmar students.The most difficult one is “zhong bin shi” in which the object is placed in the middle of the compound directional complement.The fourth chapter analyzes the error possibilities,and discusses some pertinent teaching materials compilation related with the teaching suggestions.We believe that the complexity of the extended usage of compound directional complement and the negative transfer of Myanmar Language are the main reasons for students' errors.Chinese textbooks and the students' own causes will also emerge some errors.The fifth chapter is conclusion.
