This is a report on the translation of History,Culture, and Indigenous Education in the Pacific Islands by Richard Scaglion. The original text,an academic paper belonging to the symposium of Indigenous Education: Language,Culture and Identity, can be divided into three sections: The first section describes the history of Pacific immigration and its impact;the second is about the traditional education of Pacific islands;and the third deals with the development process of Pacific education by missionaries and colonial governments. For the translation report,it is divided into five chapters: Chapter One is an introduction to the background, significance and structure of this report;Chapter Two gives a description of the source text, including its author and text type;Chapter Three explains the theoretical basis of this report —communicative translation theory by Newmark, and how it is applied in this translation report;Chapter Four illustrates the difficulties encountered in the translation process and corresponding solutions;and Chapter Five shows the lessons learned during the translation process and problems to be solved.
