| Along with the Belt and Road Initiative and the “Going Global” strategy for Chinese culture development,the world's yearning for Chinese traditional culture is more and more profound.As one of the Chinese minority cultures,Tibetan culture bred from Chinese traditional culture.Its unique Buddhist ideology gives it a power of magic,drawing worldwide eyes to explore the splendid culture.This is a translation report on the Excerpt from Confusion of Civilization——the Way Out for Tibetan Education(Page 132-151)written by professor Baden Nima(also named as Xu Yaping).Regarding translation strategies,translators need to consider three main factors: target readers,text types and translation purposes.Readers of this thesis mainly center on policy makers related to education and Chinese scholars of ethnic groups education.And the great challenge the author meets is how to have a better understanding of the source text,especially the Tibetan Buddhist terms and expressions.The author analyzes the features of the source text from the lexical,syntactic and textual levels,and determines the text belongs to informative text mainly that conveys information or contents of the text.In Newmark's view,communicative translation theory is suitable for the translation of information texts.Therefore,it is well-founded that this paper takes communicative translation theory as the theoretical basis.Based on this theory and the features of this book,the author tries to adopt corresponding translation methods from lexical,syntactic and textual levels,including annotation,conversion,combing,splitting,recasting and omission,etc.Through this translation practice,the author hopes to use the communicative translation theory to make available to information transmission,so that foreign readers can learn more about Tibetan education and obtain practical experience for the development of Tibetan District. |
