It is a translation project for the 6th chapter “Internet and thinking” selected from Thinking Skills for the Digital Generation: The Development of Thinking and Learning in the Age of Information by Balu H.Athreya and Chrystalla Mouza published by Spinger in January,2017.It is a thesis which presents the pervasive debate on the role of the Internet in thinking,historical and conceptual faults related to this debate and the status quo of the research on the impacts of the internet on reading,attention,multi-tasking,and decision-making.The authors aim to arouse the attention of educators,parents or top planners to have a reflection on those effects.This report includes five chapters.Chapter One presents an introduction to the background,significance,objectives and structure of the report.Chapter Two is an introduction to the authors,main contents,and analysis(linguistic and stylistic features)of the source text.In the third chapter,a theoretical frame is introduced including Reiss' text type theory,instrumental translation theory and their applications in the project.Chapter Four is the body part which concludes the difficulties in the project,and corresponding solutions to them under the guidance of the theoretical basis.Annotation and zero translation are used to deal with terminology;pronouns are substituted with the nouns they refer to;passive voice is solved by being translated into active ones.The last chapter is a conclusion to summarize the experience gained and problems to be solved in the project.
