An Eco-translatological Analysis Of Subtitle Translation In English Films Adapted From Literature

With the development of the film industry,it is quite common to witness that western films come into China as well as Chinese films goes into the western culture market.The translation of the film subtitle has becoming more and more significant and drawn a greater deal of notice day by day.The translation project belongs to the field of film translation.It is adapted from the famous American literary masterpiece The Great Gatsby.The Great Gatsby is the most famous work of American writer F.Scott Fitzgerald,and is also the representative work of “the lost generation” as well as the masterpiece of “the American Dream”.However,the current research on subtitle translation is not sufficient,and there is no uniform standard for subtitle translation.The aim of this paper is to study the subtitle translation of those films which are adapted from British or American literary masterpieces.In this essay,film The Great Gatsby will be the example.This paper will make analysis of the characteristics of the literary-adapted film,strategies of film subtitle translation from the perspective of eco-translatology.This thesis is based on the theory of ecological translation,and explores the application of the eco-translatology in English film subtitle translation.This paper will cover three major sections: the literary works and their adaptations,the film subtitle translation and eco-translatology.This paper will make a more systematic analysis and interpretation based on a reasonable logic,in order to sum up how to use ecological translation theory in the film subtitle translation in a better way.
