The translation report is based on the translation of Introduction and Chapter1 of The Three Percent Problem: Rants and Responses on Publishing,Translation and the Future of Reading by Chad Post. The book discloses the fact that only 3% of all the books published in the U.S.are translations and aims to appeal to more publishers to pay attention to the publication of the great translation works and promote cultural exchanges among nations. It is hoped that the translated version of this book will bring about some enlightenment to Chinese press and some translators as well as readers. The report consists of four parts. The first part gives a brief introduction to the translation project, which especially focuses on the significance of the project. The second part clarifies the translation process, which emphasizes the systematic analysis and classification of the problems during the process. The third part deals with the mistakes in the draft version of the translation, and further analysis is conducted from the aspects of references, polysemy, omissions, etc.under the guidance of intralinguistic context and extra-linguistic context theory. It shows how to correct the mistakes and improve the translation quality by choosing proper translation skills. The last part is the summary of the translation practice, including how to deal with the problems by the theory and the author's self-reflection.
