This thesis is a report on the translation of the second chapter of Drama and Education: Performance Methodologies for Teaching and Learning.This book is written by Manon van de Water who is famous scholar in Drama Education field.The source text mainly elaborates two teaching methods of linear drama and process-oriented drama on the theoretical level and explores how to integrate the teaching method of Drama Education into classroom teaching.Because Drama Education belongs to a new field in China,there are no equivalents for these terms in the target language.Therefore,the toughest issue is how to keep the translation not only faithful to the original text but also meet the habitual expression in the target language.This is also the issue to be addressed in this thesis.Based on the analysis of the source text,this thesis uses the principles of term translation to explore the proper translation methods for terms translation and to correctly convey the information to the readers.Firstly,this thesis defines the definition of term and reviews research situations both at home and abroad.Then,it explains three translation principles of term: accuracy,readability and derivability.And with the help of the statistical analysis of the Drama Education terms,this thesis divides the terms into three types,i.e.methodological terms,technique terms and game terms.Under the guidance of the principles of term,this thesis explores the E-C translation methods for the above three kinds of terms.In conclusion,translation methods of transplanting and meaning extension are used for the methodological terms.For the technique terms,the methods of amplification and free translation are adopted.When it comes to the game terms,methods of borrowing and conversion are used.When these methods are used flexibly and appropriately,we could transmit the information in the source text accurately.It is hoped that this thesis can provide some guidance for the translation of this type text,and also provides reference value for Drama Education development and teaching reform in China.
