E-C Translation Of Computer Terms In Analyzing The Post-Editing Of Machine Translation At Autodesk

The translation material comes from Post-editing of Machine Translation: Processes and Applications by Sharon O'Brien,the leading figure in the post-editing of machine translation studies,of which the first chapter Analyzing the Post-Editing of Machine Translation at Autodesk is taken as the research subject.This English text mainly analyzes the post-editing work of machine translation at Autodesk.It covers many aspects of the post-editing process of machine translation,which entails a lot of technical terms,especially the ones in computer science.This thesis analyzes the translation methods of computer terms according to the word formation of English terms,the characteristics of computer terms and the principles of term translation.The computer terms in the source language text are analyzed according to their characteristics and divided into two categories,i.e.technical terms and terminologized common words in the hope of finding out applicable translation methods and accurately conveying the information of the original text.Guided by the three principles of term translation,namely the principle of accuracy,the principle of conciseness,and the principle of normalization,six translation methods are proposed based on the source language material,including literal translation,zero translation,transplantation with Chinese key words,free translation,concept conversion,and imitation.The above six translation methods can manifest the concepts of those terms,thus helping to improve the accuracy of the English translation of computer terms.It has been found out that as the meaning of English words changes with the context,it may cause difficulties in translating the English computer terms.Therefore,when choosing a translation method,the translator should consider the structural characteristics of the term as well as the context,so as to select the appropriate translation method.In addition,in the process of translation,the translator must master the characteristics of computer terms,and combine the three principles of term translation to accomplish the translation of computer terms in the hope of providing some references for translating similar texts.
