The Research Of Term Translation In EST

Science and technical text features the use of lots of terms and the large proportion of terms in it has attracted increasingly larger attention of relative translators.The current research of term translation is mainly about translation criteria,naming criteria and the difficulties of term translation,and specific translation strategies are hardly discussed.This paper summarizes some specific translation strategies of terms from the perspective of word formation of Chinese and English languages as well as their respective word characteristics.First,this paper summarizes the definitions and features of terms,makes a comparison of Chinese and English word formation and discussed the translation criteria of terms.This paper puts forward five methods to translate terms based on the analysis of the translation of Marine Machine(chapter 1&2),namely:a structure and semantic analysis of compound terms;analogy analysis of terms in the same category;deduction of a term's synonyms;deduction from word derivation;deduction from context.Besides,this paper also discusses problems in the term translation and required qualifications of translators.In order to do s better job in term translation,translators should not only have a better knowledge of translation skills,but also have a certain mastery of terms as well as have a better understanding of the background knowledge of the text he is translating in order to reduce the mistakes in the translation and improve the accuracy of translation.In addition,research of this paper provides a new perspective and some reference to further study in term translation.
