This thesis takes the terms and term translation as the object of study. Specifically, it mainly discusses the methods of achieving the accuracy of term translation.Usually, terms are regarded as linguistic expressions of knowledge in a specific field. They are typically characterized by scientificity, simplicity, systematicness, derivation and monosemy. This thesis holds that the most important criterion of term translation is accuracy. In the mono-lingual context, terminological accuracy requires the literal meaning be in accordance with its actual meaning. Accordingly, when it comes to the bi-lingual context, translational accuracy means that the concept of the term in target language should be completely identical to that in source language and that the literal meaning of the target language should be a proper representation of the conceptual meaning. To achieve this effect, the information denoted by the term in source language should be transferred accurately and completely by translators in the conversion of words, without meaning deviation or information loss.Based on the preliminary theoretical discussions on the basics of terminology and term translation, this thesis divides the relations between the nomenclature of the target language and the source concept into three categories:one-to-one correspondence, incomplete correspondence, and no correspondence. Given that the one-to-one correspondence relation is not worth discussing, this thesis mainly focuses on the other two categories. Several methods of achieving term translation accuracy are put forward, with case analysis, in this thesis, including distinguishing the concepts of terms according to the professional knowledge, extending the concepts of words according to their basic meanings, borrowing words from other specialized domains, and deriving the concept from the source language context. It’s important to note that the adoption of any method aforementioned is not strictly specific to a certain circumstance. The aim of this thesis is simply to offer a way of thinking, not a prescriptive doctrine, in the pursuit of accuracy in term translation.
