As Critical Thinking gradually gains more attention in the course of ideological and cultural exchanges between China and foreign countries, the related translations have become increasingly popular in China. Inevitably, it involves the translation of terms, the keywords of the systematic knowledge on a certain subject. Inappropriate rendering of terms may pose great effect on the understanding about terms and even related information in professional field. The thesis aims to examine the translation of critical thinking terms from the perspective of translation standards. It begins with a detailed analysis of the translations of some basic terms on critical thinking in the Chinese version of Critical Thinking in Psychology:A Unified Skills Approach (translated by Li Xiaoping and others and published in China Light Industry Press in 2005), which respectively published in Wadsworth Publishing in 1997 and in China Light Industry Press in 2005. It is found that there are three main deficiencies in the translated version, namely, the mistranslation of terms, inconsistent translation and unconcise translation. And then, three translation standards are put forward to give a reference to the translation of terms of critical thinking. Finally, this thesis offers several suggestions in the translation of terms from both objective and subjective aspects. The author hopes promote the continued perfection of term translation and accelerate the speed of introducing critical thinking.
