The Strategies In English-chinese Consecutive Interpretation Of The Political Lecture

The practice report,based on the recording of the interpreting process,the analyses of practiced examples and the interpreting strategies,clarifies the features of similar texts,like the speech delivered by the famous linguist Noam Chomsky on the Lecture of Racing to the Precipice: Global Climate,Political Climate 2017.The report aims to clarify the challenges of the English to Chinese interpreting in written speech source text featured by complex grammatical structures and to summarize the selection and application of corresponding strategies.The source text of the practice report is manuscript reading with the characteristics of complex grammatical structures and high formality.Besides,the analyses of the source text tell that passive sentences,compound sentences and nominal equivalents can be easily seen in the source text.If handled improperly,these problems must be the barriers for interpreters.To improve the coherence of the target language and to reduce the comprehension burden of the audiences,interpreters can transform passive sentences into actives ones or into passive sentences in Chinese.For compound sentences,clarifying structures of them through division or amplification helps interpreters better understand source texts.Meanwhile,unpacking nominal equivalents by word transformations and syntactic adjustments is also a good way to shorten the time for interpreters to understand sources texts and improve the fluency of the target language.This report is that the source text is relatively formal and complex with mixed grammatical structures.The source text is representative.Strategies employed to concrete examples are based on thorough analysis and the features of the source text.It not only improves the accuracy of the strategies,but also provides references for interpreting similar source texts.
