The author of this thesis was entrusted by "Chengdu Yestran Translation Co.,Ltd" to the project which includes 150,000 words,in which the author was in charge of the former part translation and her partners finished the rest part.The original text belongs to English for Science and Technology,and its target readers are experts in civil engineering sector.The requirements of the clients are as follows: the translation should be accurate,and the target readers can gain the information accurately.The translator had a better understanding of the style and content of the original text before translation.She searched the information in the process of translation and revised the text until it was accepted by the project manager.Peter Newmark is a translation theoretician of great renown.Peter Newmark divided the texts into different types on the basis of function.English for Science and Technology belongs to informative text so that it is suitable to guide this translation task by Peter Newmark‘s communicative translation theory.Before translation,the author of this thesis understood that the original text can be classified into English for Science and Technology,after having a better understanding of the characteristics of this text,the author decided to use Peter Newmark‘s communicative translation theory to guide her translation.The author of this thesis used lots of methods to solve many difficulties encountered in the translation process.For example,the translator utilized the method of "literal translation" to deal with civil engineering English words.In addition,the translator used "sequential translation method" and "syntactic segmentation method" to deal with long sentences and some special sentence structures such as passive voice and "it" as the formal subject structure.After translation,the translator hopes that she can be acted as a bridge to make the target readers to gain the information accurately so that to realize the goal of communication.In accordance with the problems encountered in the process of translation,the author of this thesis summarized some techniques and tactics of English for Science and Technology.The author hopes that future translators can use those techniques and tactics to deal with difficulties so as to meet the requirements of the target readers and clients.
