With the development of electric technology and the improvement of international influence of China, more and more developing countries invest China's technology and equipment, which makes our overseas electric power projects increase rapidly and stimulates the demand for on-site interpreters. However, the quality of interpretation has great impact on projects. The interpreters will work well if they could adopt some strategies flexibly under the guidance of translation theories,so as to reduce the communication barriers between two parties and promote the project effectively. As the core theory of the functionalist translation approach, the skopos theory attaches great importance to translation purpose, which determines the translation strategies in turn,so translators could adopt various strategies to achieve translation purpose.Translation process under the guidance of this theory should conform to Skopos Rule,Coherence Rule and Fidelity Rule, which are the three basic rules of the skopos theory. It is found that this theory is of great significance to the on-site interpretation practice through the analysis of the characteristics of thermal power projects and the application of translation strategies.Based on the skopos theory, this thesis analyzes cases of on-site interpretation, and summarizes various strategies according to the characteristics of thermal power projects, including literal translation, adding method, converting words property, adjusting the order of sentence, converting the voice of sentence, division and combination. All of these strategies are suggested in the hope that it could provide reference value for on-site interpreters and improve the interpretation quality of thermal power projects.
