With the rapid development of science and technology,it is significant to strengthen the dissemination and exchange of sci-tech information.Sci-tech news has become an important medium to disseminate sci-tech information because of its fast spread speed,wide audience and strong readability.Sci-tech news is one of the news fields which Chinese readers pay more attention to.Excellent sci-tech news translation should not only accurately express the meaning of the original text,but also pay attention to the readability of the translation.Based on Peter Newmark’s translation theory,the author takes translation practice of English sci-tech news from Huanqiu.com as materials and completes this translation practice report.Firstly,the text type of sci-tech news mainly belongs to the information function text according to Newmark’s text type theory.Secondly,in view of Newmark’s theory that translation strategy depends on the text type,the author determines that communicative translation should be given priority to and semantic translation should be supplemented in this translation practice.Finally,the author chooses translation methods suitable for English sci-tech news on the basis of Newmark’s translation strategies and specific cases flexibly.This translation practice report is composed of four chapters.Chapter One gives a description of translation task,which describes task background,task content,task requirements and text analysis.Chapter Two gives a description of translation process,including pre-translation preparation,translation process and post-translation revision.Chapter Three gives an analysis of translation cases.First of all,the author introduces Newmark’s translation theory as well as theoretical guidance on practice.Then the author explores the translation methods suitable for English sci-tech news from vocabulary,sentence and text.Chapter Four gives a summary of this translation practice,summarizing the experience,harvest,deficiency and thinking in the process of translation practice.Because of this translation practice,the author has learned that determining the text type is an important prerequisite to choose appropriate translation strategies.Communicative translation is more suitable to guide the translation of English sci-tech news,but semantic translation should not be neglected.The translation practice report can be used for reference to improve the translation quality of English sci-tech news.
